Introduction

Cold Ashton is a beautiful parish five miles north of Bath. Perched on the south-western edge of the Cotswold escarpment, the main part of the village has wonderful views down into the steep-sided St Catherines Valley. To the north, from the highest points, there are faraway glimpses of the Forest of Dean and even the topmost tips of the old Severn Crossing. The parish is peaceful but not cut off. Two busy roads – the A46 and the A420 – cross the area.
